New England Equal Best Winning Streak Since Tom Brady Era with Win Over Jets
First-year player TreVeyon Henderson has recorded five scores during the current campaign
New England matched their longest winning run from the Brady period as they defeated AFC East rivals the Jets 27-14 in professional football
Rookie Henderson shone brightly with three scores as the New England squad notched an eighth consecutive victory for the initial occasion since iconic QB Brady's last year with the team in 2019
Quarterback Maye threw for 281 yards and a touchdown, connecting on 25 of 34 passes
The triumph increases the Patriots advantage at the top of the AFC East as they improved to a 9-2 record, with the Jets bottom after dropping to two wins and eight losses
The Jets had taken the lead at their home field with quarterback Justin Fields scoring a short rushing score to conclude the New York's first possession
But the Patriots fought back in the second period as the rookie rushed for two seven-yard touchdowns before the running back hauled in a throw from Drake Maye at the back of the endzone midway through the third quarter to make it 21-7
"It was a key occasion for him rising to the challenge, and it's been excellent for him to keep earning playing time," the quarterback commented on the rookie. "He aims to be outstanding."
Justin Fields found John Metchie in the latter part of the third period to reduce the lead for the Jets but Andy Borregales converted a pair of field goals in the fourth quarter as the Patriots wrapped up the win
